Founded by the late Mr. Roc Kirby in 1954 in Melbourne, Australia with a drive-in cinema, Village Roadshow has been listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) since 1988. With the Company’s roots still based in Melbourne, few are aware of the breadth or the diversity of Village Roadshow’s entertainment and media assets.
Today, Village Roadshow operates core businesses in Theme Parks, Film and DVD Distribution, Cinema Exhibition, Film Production and Marketing Solutions. While creating strong and diverse earnings streams, these businesses are complementary, targeting a similar customer demographic and providing significant cross-promotional opportunities.
In film, Village Roadshow is a major movie producer and film and DVD distributor as well as operator of cinema exhibition circuits. In movie production, the Company is one of the most successful independent producers in Hollywood with successes including The Matrix trilogy, the Ocean’s trilogy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Happy Feet, Get Smart, I am Legend, Sherlock Holmes, The Great Gatsby and The Lego Movie.
Village Roadshow owns and operates the popular theme parks on Queensland’s Gold Coast: Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild, Australian Outback Spectacular and Paradise Country, as well as Sea World Resort & Water Park and Village Roadshow Studios. In addition it also has a water park in Las Vegas and opened Wet’n’Wild Sydney in December 2013. The Group is also contracted to design, construct and manage a water park on Hainan Island in China and is investigating other opportunities in Asia.
